Piano Lessons for Kids

There is no doubt that learning to play an instrument has substantial benefits in children’s well-being in general. Among all other instruments, piano is the best one to start with. Piano is one of the few instruments that doesn’t need any other instruments to be accompanied with. It’s a lot more pleasing to the ear whilst others such as string instruments are much harder to make an acceptable sound in the beginning. The note that a 5 years old can make by pressing down a key on piano sounds just as in tone as a professional pianist!

Piano uses both clefs at the same time while other instruments use only one clef at a time. As a result a piano student can read the notes written for any other instruments as well as piano. Piano has the biggest range among the music instruments, which is a great benefit on developing a musical ear. Playing piano has a lot of academic advantages. Namely many grammar schools have certain requirements on music skills and award extra points on application of student who can play an instrument.

How Does It Work

The minimum age to start the piano lessons is 5 years old. It is important that the student be able to differentiate his/her right and left hands and be able to relate to the music notation.

For older pupils playing piano can significantly improve the self-esteem, and help them learn a practical new skill. It also improves their coordination, memory and concentration.

The consistency of the piano lessons is one of the most crucial aspects of learning the instrument. We recommend having at least one lesson per week. This will give the student enough time to practise on the pieces that we learn on each session.

At London Music Tutors we only teach exam boards that are accredited by Ofqual (Office of Qualification and Exam Regulation).

Once the pupil passed the grade 5 of piano exams, the certificate that he/she receives will be equivalent of GSCE in music. Piano exams also play a significant role on applying for universities as student will be awarded UCAS points when they show they have passed the grade 5 exams.

Theory of Music

Theory of Music is an important music subject that often gets neglected. It is all about learning the mechanics of music which is extremely important in understanding the music you are playing on piano. In other words learning theory of music will certainly make you a better pianist who fully understands the music that he/she is playing.

Learning theory of music also gives the student a basic understanding of how to compose a new piece of music.

Special Needs

Over the years we have helped many students with special needs to achieve success in playing piano. Music is the best communicational means that everyone loves and can relate to. Practising piano and overcoming mistakes can be very rewarding by giving us a sense of achievement that leads to being more confident.

Understanding the rhythm while playing piano helps with coordinations and stress relief. Playing piano also improves the attention and teaches the student to think analytically.

At London Piano Tutors we have experienced teachers who work regularly with students with special needs and understand the challenges and know how to overcome them. We aim towards helping every Londoner to discover their inner musician.
